Introduction to our new column with Boulder Weekly: "Ask a Therapist."

Who? Welcome to Ask a Therapist, a new monthly column in Boulder Weekly that explores issues affecting your mental health. I’m Michele Goldberg, a licensed psychotherapist with 15 years of experience and a private clinic, Find Your Center Therapy, servicing Colorado, California, and Florida through virtual and in-person services.

Why? This column aims to bring emotional conversations to the forefront, offering insights, advice, and support to our Boulder community. Our goal is to replace shame with curiosity, isolation with connection, and judgment with empathy around our shared life challenges. In this age of digitized AI wellness, we will answer real questions from real people with real answers from real people.

What? Each month, let’s dive into your queries about a diverse range of topics, including relationships, work conflicts, family dynamics, and anything else you deem important. Consider it a starting point for reflection and understanding. Let’s take a collective step towards destigmatizing mental health issues and creating a more supportive, connected community.

Where and How? To maintain privacy in our published responses, we anonymize all questions and alter identifying information. If you have a question you’d like answered, you can submit it via email to [email protected], or fill out our form through the Boulder Weekly website. Please include your age range and any relevant context, but note that personally identifying information is not strictly confidential through this platform.

Remember, taking care of your mental health is just as important as maintaining your physical health. By opening up these conversations, we’re taking a step towards destigmatizing mental health issues and creating a more supportive, understanding community.

I look forward to hearing from you and addressing your questions in the months to come.

I am lucky to love what I do and feel so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your life.

While applying for my first internship, the interviewer broached the topic of love's role in therapy. I responded unequivocally: If I cannot love you as my client, then I have no place being your therapist. For me, genuine care transcends boundaries. This belief fuels my resilience; I never experience burnout because each client matters deeply to me. Your life, relationships, struggles, and triumphs—all hold significance in my eyes. No detail is too mundane, no secret too daunting.

Take the first step towards a more fulfilling life.
